Which candidate is best placed to stop Reform UK?

The facts speak for themselves:

Fact 1

The Liberal Democrats are the biggest party right across our area in local government…

Number of councillors per party across Hull and East Riding councils: Lib Dem 50, Lab 30, Con 26

Thursday’s election covers the whole of Hull and East Yorkshire.

This is the number of councillors per party across both council areas combined.

The Liberal Democrats are the biggest party in local elections across our region.

They have the most councillors in Hull and made big gains on the East Riding last time.

The Conservatives have no presence in Hull - and in much of rural East Yorkshire the Labour Party has no support.

Fact 2

Tactical voting websites now say a Lib Dem vote is the best way to beat Reform here…

Quote from StopReformUK.vote website: “The most recent local election results (in 2023 and 2024) over the same area show the Lib Dems ahead of Labour in both areas, Hull and East Yorkshire, which means that the Lib Dems are better placed to challenge Reform (who appear to be ahead of the Tories).”

Tactical voting website ‘StopReformUK’ is saying a vote for Lib Dem Mike Ross on Thursday is the best way to stop Reform UK winning in Hull and East Yorkshire.

Fact 3

Polling company YouGov has the Lib Dems second to Reform here - with Labour third...

Quote from Hull Daily Mail “[Reform UK]’s candidate topped a YouGov poll putting him on 35 per cent. The poll then has the Liberal Democrats' Mike Ross in second place.”

Respected national polling company YouGov has conducted voting intention polls for decades on UK politics.

Between 9th and 23rd April this year they conducted a poll across Hull and East Yorkshire for the Mayor Election.

The YouGov poll has Lib Dem Mike Ross in second place, as the clearest challenger to Reform UK in first.

Labour’s candidate was in third place in YouGov’s poll.

Fact 4

Support for the Labour Party has fallen since they formed a Government last July…

Quote from Financial Times “elections where [the Lib Dems and Reform UK]	are going head to head include the tight Hull and East Yorkshire mayoralty race.” Quote from The Times “Reform’s main competitors [in Hull and East Yorkshire] will be the Liberal Democrats.”

Whatever you may think about Keir Starmer’s Labour Government, opinion polling shows support for the Labour Party has fallen since the General Election.

In Hull, Labour were overtaken by the Lib Dems in local elections even before last year. The national media are saying they aren’t likely to do better now that they’re in Government.

But support for the Lib Dems is growing - in the fact of the threat of Reform UK.

Mike Ross is the best choice to stop Reform UK.

Vote for Mike Ross to defeat Reform on Thursday 1 May.

Voting for any other candidate risks letting Reform UK win in Hull and East Yorkshire…
